Director’s Statement

This modern society, with an oncoming generation of perceptive culture of people subsides a sub society. A modern era, where deep emotions and beliefs, bury deep in our minds. Intellectual thinking, from past to present commits a deep part of their souls that goes on for a lifetime. Personal struggles express a contemporary mind state that feels unclear to our eyes. As the two characters that live through a struggle in “The Blue Bird”, the transcending emotions is what makes us believe we exist and connect with perception.

I felt that I had to portray this film as intimate and personal as possible as I show the uncompromising details on how the mind reacts through sheer lonesomeness. Originally I had been writing my feature length movie called, “Mars Jazz” which is also about the same two characters but in the feature the viewers realize that they don’t believe in the idea of love. These two people are extreme outcast in society. In the film I establish them living their life with that mind set from the start of the movie. With “The Blue Bird”, a prequel that lets the audience see their personal background on why they are, what they are now.

Yu-min and Yumi portrays, a life in all of us. Two neighbors going through two different problems, but subconsciously they are one character. The title of the movie “The Blue Bird” is a personal metaphor that expresses the lonesomeness of a character. Living life through an unexplainable hard time, whether you walk or even fly, going through a psychological crisis always feels blue and lonesome. The underlying message to the film is a modern approach about our emotions which let’s familiar impressions, universal.
